"Martyn Pointer of TWF Consultancy has been a mentor for me for about 9 months. At DART Tool Group we are growing a business through uncharted waters and along with this comes many challenges that often take you by surprise. During my career, like most would say, you learn things the ‘hard way’.
However to have a mentor/coach to lead and develop you is an invaluable experience. Building this confidence in me has made me realise that ‘I can do it’ and the things I feared doing, he has taught me to take in my stride. He has an ability to tease things out of you in a way that he made you feel like it was your own idea. People management skills are a key attribute and I was aware I had them but he has helped me develop them.
Some examples of these are given below.
360 degree staff feedback. Martyn advised me to undergo a 360 degree feedback program in which I got a number of my colleagues to score me and comment on my skill set. Whilst this was a very new experience for me it helped me to see how my team viewed me and where my strengths and weaknesses were.
On-boarding for new staff. In an SME this is often something that is often inadequate and can result in setting up new team members for failure. A systematic approach which Martyn helped me devise has given much more professionalism to the program.
Goal setting and incentivisation programs. Martyn showed me how to open the eyes of my team and to give them vision to succeed in their careers and personal lives. Accountability is also very key in this learning journey.
Key account management systems. Managing a large account can often be a challenge. Martyn shared documents with me showing me how to systemise this skill maintaining a secure, strong customer support system
I would strongly recommend Martyn’s coaching programmes as I have never had so much confidence in my career as I do today following his support in my challenging role"
